With a background in graphic design and photography, I followed my love of code into the wonderful world wide web.
Learn MoreI studied as a graphic designer, but through internships, online courses, and practice I worked my way into web design and front-end development. I enjoy making beautiful, orderly designs and also getting to code them into finished products.
My ResumeAnalytics should guide the design process, but there's no substitute for experience. I'm well versed in every step of the creative process, from creating personas and wireframes to crafting pixel-perfect mockups and exporting optimized assets.
Front-end code is where form and function meet. I strive for writing clean, well-organized code, making use of modern frameworks and pre-processors to help with the heavy lifting.
Design principles apply across disciplines, but the technical requirements for print work distinguish it from digital media. I'm familiar with handling its unique challenges like setting up bleeds, proofing colors, and adjusting for creep.

Combining my interest in archery with my ability as a front-end developer, I designed and built an HTML app to make it easier to score and analyze my shots. The Loveland Living Planet Aquarium based in Utah came to Speak Creative looking to update their existing site to reflect their recent growth. A new sitemap had to be drafted while I worked on template mockups with a fun and modern style. I built the site on WordPress, creating several custom Gutenberg blocks using ACFs to accomodate their unique content needs.
A long-time Speak client, the Southern College of Optometry needed a styling update to their site while leaving the content mostly unchanged. Using SiteWrench's theming feature, I was able to reskin existing templates, designing directly in the browser. Several new landing templates were added as well, specifically one highlighting life in Memphis to attract potential students and a home page featuring significant statistics and video testimonials.
Marx Bensdorf, a well-established real estate agency in Tennessee needed a styling update, marking their 150 years in business. Their main site and agent pages were already built using SiteWrench, so I was able to take their existing content and style new templates directly in the browser. Inspired by a combined love of pixel art and text-based adventures, I decided to design my own UI for a choose-your-own-path game. I used sprites and pixelated image rendering along with my own custom icon set and a modified pixel font to define the aesthetic. The cool, dark color scheme helps conjure the right mood for the story (which is still in the works).
